8 Top Trends in Wedding Videography for the Modern Couple [2024]

Wedding videography has come a long way in recent years, with new technology and creative techniques allowing videographers to capture the love and emotions of a wedding day in ways that were once unimaginable. For modern couples, the options for wedding videography are endless and it can be hard to know where to start. In this article, we will take a look at the 8 top trends in wedding videography for the modern couple.

1) Cinematic storytelling

Cinematic storytelling is a popular trend in wedding videography that combines music, sound effects, and special effects to create a film that tells the story of the couple’s love and their big day in a way that is both emotional and visually stunning.

This approach is becoming increasingly popular among couples who are looking for a film that is more than just a document of their wedding day, but instead a cinematic experience that captures the emotions, the beauty and the memories of the special day.

The videographer will work with the couple to understand their vision, style and preferences to create a concept that is tailored to them. They will use different camera angles, movements and lenses to create a film that is visually stunning.

The use of music is also an important part of cinematic storytelling, music can set the tone, create the atmosphere, and evoke emotions. The videographer will choose a soundtrack that reflects the couple’s style and the mood of the wedding day. He will also use sound effects, such as the sound of the wind, the waves or birds singing, to enhance the atmosphere and create a sense of place.

Special effects can also be used to create a more cinematic look, such as slow-motion, time-lapse or tilt-shift. These effects can create a sense of dreaminess and make the film more visually interesting.

Cinematic storytelling is a way to create a film that is truly unique and personalized, that captures the essence of the couple’s love and the special moments of their big day in a way that is both emotional and visually stunning. A film that is more than just a document of the wedding day, but a cinematic experience that the couple can treasure for a lifetime.

2) Drone footage

Drone footage allows videographers to capture aerial shots of the ceremony and reception that would otherwise be impossible. Drones are equipped with cameras that can capture high-quality footage from a bird’s-eye view, providing a new perspective on the wedding day. This can add a new dimension to the film and create some truly breathtaking moments.

One of the biggest advantages of using drones for wedding videography is the ability to capture wide-angle shots of the ceremony and reception. This can include shots of the entire venue, the surrounding landscape, and the couple as they exchange their vows. This can provide a sense of place and context that traditional ground-based cameras cannot match.

Another advantage is the ability to capture unique and creative shots that would be difficult or impossible to achieve with traditional cameras. For example, drones can fly over the crowd, providing an aerial view of the guests as they celebrate the couple’s special day. They can also be used to capture shots of the couple as they walk down the aisle, providing a unique and intimate perspective.

Drone footage can also be used to capture shots of the couple as they take their first dance, or as they cut their cake, providing a unique and dynamic perspective that adds a new level of visual interest to the film.

It’s important to note that drone footage can only be captured if the weather is suitable for the drone to fly, and if the venue allows it. Drones are also subject to specific regulations and a videographer should have a valid pilot’s license and permission to fly a drone in a specific location.

3) Slow-motion footage

Slow-motion footage is a trend in videography that allows videographers to capture the emotions and movements of the couple and their guests in a way that is both intimate and beautiful. Slow-motion footage is shot at a higher frame rate than standard footage, and then played back at a slower speed. This creates a dreamy and ethereal effect, making the film look more visually stunning and emotionally evocative.

One of the biggest advantages of using slow-motion footage is that it allows videographers to capture the nuances of movement and emotions that might otherwise be missed. For example, a bride’s smile as she walks down the aisle, or the groom’s tear as he sees his bride for the first time. These moments are fleeting, but when captured in slow-motion, they can be savored and enjoyed for years to come.

Another advantage of slow-motion footage is that it can be used to capture the energy and excitement of the reception. Slow-motion footage of the guests dancing, laughing, and celebrating can create a sense of joy and euphoria that is difficult to convey with standard footage.

It’s important to note that slow-motion footage is best captured using high-speed cameras, which are capable of capturing a high number of frames per second, this ensures that the footage is smooth and fluid when played back in slow motion.

4) Live streaming

With the advent of new technology, many couples are now choosing to live stream their ceremony and reception, allowing loved ones who are unable to attend to still be a part of the special day.

There are several ways to live stream a wedding, the most popular method is to use a streaming platform such as YouTube, Facebook or Zoom. The couple can choose to stream the entire ceremony and reception, or just specific moments such as the ceremony or the speeches. This allows guests to watch the wedding in real-time, no matter where they are in the world.

Live streaming also provides an opportunity for couples to include those who may not be able to attend due to health or mobility issues. It also allows for friends and family to be a part of the special day even if they are far away.

It also provides an opportunity for couples to have a virtual guestbook, where people who watch the live stream can leave comments and messages for the couple. This can be a great way to involve people who couldn’t be there in person and have a special record of the day.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that live streaming can add an extra layer of complexity to the wedding day, it’s important to discuss the logistics with the wedding planner and the venue, and to ensure that there’s a stable internet connection and a dedicated person to manage the live streaming.

5) Documentary-style

The Documentary-style is a popular trend in wedding videography that captures the day as it happens, without the use of special effects or manipulation. This approach results in an authentic and candid film, that tells the story of the couple’s big day in a natural and unobtrusive way.

The documentary-style is characterized by its focus on capturing real emotions and candid moments, rather than creating a highly-stylized and choreographed film. The videographer will work to capture the essence of the day, focusing on the couple’s interactions, emotions, and the atmosphere of the event.

The videographer will use a combination of wide shots, close-ups, and medium shots to create a film that is visually interesting and emotionally evocative. They will also use natural sound to create a sense of place and to enhance the atmosphere of the film.

One of the biggest advantages of the documentary-style is that it allows the couple to relive their wedding day as it truly happened. It captures the genuine moments of joy, laughter, and tears that make the day so special. It creates a film that is candid and true, and that accurately reflects the couple’s personalities and the atmosphere of their special day.

6) Use of multiple cameras

One of the biggest advantages of using multiple cameras is that it allows the videographer to capture different angles and perspectives of the wedding day. For example, one camera can be used to capture wide shots of the ceremony and reception, while another camera can be used to capture close-ups of the couple and their guests. This creates a film that is visually interesting and that tells the story of the day in a dynamic way.

It’s important to note that the use of multiple cameras can add an extra layer of complexity to the wedding day, it’s important to discuss the logistics with the wedding planner and the venue, and to ensure that the cameras are operated by experienced professionals who can work together to create a cohesive film.

In conclusion, by using multiple cameras, videographers can ensure that they don’t miss any important moments and can create a film that is visually interesting and emotionally evocative.

7) Social media friendly edits

Social media friendly edits allows couples to share their special day with friends and family on social media platforms. These edits are shorter versions of the full wedding film, specifically tailored to be shared on social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.

The social media friendly edits usually focus on the most important and visually striking moments of the wedding day, such as the ceremony, speeches, and first dance. They are edited to be shorter in duration, usually between 30 seconds to a minute, and are designed to be easily shared on social media platforms. They often include a mix of footage from different cameras and different angles, and are accompanied by a carefully selected soundtrack that enhances the visual and emotional impact of the film.

Another advantage is that it allows the couple to create a lasting memory of the special day that can be shared and enjoyed by others, creating a sense of community and connection. And it also allows the couple to create a lasting online presence, which can be enjoyed by future generations.

It’s important to note that the social media friendly edits should be consistent with the style and the tone of the full wedding film and to be respectful of the couple’s preferences.

8) Color grading

Color grading is a popular trend in wedding videography that allows videographers to adjust and enhance the color and tone of the footage to create a film that is visually stunning and emotionally evocative. Color grading is the process of adjusting the color balance, saturation, and contrast of the footage to create a specific look and feel.

However, nothing prevents you from extending your requests when signing the contract. Request more information and take a look at our pricelist to find out about all the services we offer.

The payment is divided in three parts:

Weddings and elopements have always been made by me and my team of professional videographers. However, during our acquaintance you will know immediately if I will be free for your event or if my team will be present.

For years so far, we have chosen not to charge for the drone as for a service apart, so it is already included in our basic package and there is no increase in price. This instrument will be used at our discretion, where there is needed.

In some places drone use is unfortunately not permitted. In that case we will use 4K stock aerial footage of the location.

In a wedding we generally stay from 8 to 10 hours. For an elopement the service time ranges from 4 to 6 hours.

Obviously it is possible to create a tailor-made contract for you in order to cover the entire event (welcome dinner, night party, post and pre wedding experiences).

Yes, you can make some small changes to the video such as scene changes. It is not possible to change the music because the music is always chosen by the couple before starting the assembly phase.

We always give the couple the choice of two important things:
the music and the parts of the speeches.

The music can be chosen by the couple before or after the wedding day.

For the speeches, however, we send the couple all the videos of the speeches and the couple can tell us the most important minutes they want to have in the video.

In this way we try to create a product that is as close to what the couple would like to receive.

Obviously this is not a requirement. If the couple doesn’t want to do this, they can totally rely on our personal taste.
