Today we are with Alexandra Kukushkina, wedding photographer in Italy. Professional of the field that I have got to know and with which currently I collaborate to the north Italy and worldwide.
How did you approach photography? Did you do anything else before?
Photography has attracted me since i was i child. It’s a passion inherited from my father. In 2007 i made a mistake choosing engineering as my first profession, so I started to looking for my life’s work. I’ve tested myself by studying books, photographs on the internet with the camera in my hand. I started from the portraits but soon i was asked to photograph my first wedding and I realized that I will never stop. It was love at first sight.
Who inspired your photography? Who are your reference photographers?
Let’s say that in the various moments of my formation as a photographer I had various reference photographers. But one that struck me from the beginning is Elliott Erwitt. I also have one of his photographs on the wall at my house – “California Kiss»
What would you recommend to those who have to choose a photographer for their wedding?
I recommend getting carried away by the emotions while looking at the published stories of various photographers. And let the heart choose:) If you feel in harmony with what you saw – it’s the right time to say ” yes ” to your photographer. Then it is very important also the empathy that is created between the photographer, the bride and the groom.
What is a wedding reportage and why do you prefer it to the classic posing photos?
Wedding reportage is a tale of a true story. And for me the most valuable thing about wedding is the feelings of the bride, the groom and their guests. And the reportage gives me the opportunity to tell this story full of smiles, concussions and worries.
How do you get involved with the bride and groom?
Communication is very important to understand the needs of the bride and the groom well and to tune in to a wave. If there is a possibility we make an appointment offline, otherwise we use Skype, FaceTime or simply the phone or email, depends on how people feel it. And then we talk about everything: the details of the wedding day, the emotions they feel, what they want to realize. Sometimes if they don’t have a wedding planner they ask me for timing advice and it is a great responsibility to find for them the best solutions that reflect their vision of the day.
Do you recommend photos, videos or both?
For couples I recommend to add photography to the video: they are the only two things that remain forever.
In case someone is interested in seeing your work, where can they find it?

What advice would you give to the bride and groom so that their repotage is really special?
The reportage tells the real story, so I would advise to the bride and the groom to let go of the emotions. And I will be there to capture these moments of happiness and joy.
